Neuroethics: The Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Neuroscience in Society
Billy is Head of Teaching and Research in Physiology at the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School, Ireland. Prior to this appointment he was Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, and Head of Neuroscience Research at University College Dublin, Ireland.
The fast pace at which neuroscience has progressed and the increased attention being paid to public understanding of science illuminate the important role of neuroethics in neuroscience. In this regard, Billy’s interest in the evolving field of neuroethics encompasses the biological basis of personality and social behaviour, ethical, legal, and social policy implications of neuroscience, and advances in clinical research.
Public discourse requires the dissemination of accurate and accessible information from the scientific world to the public. Billy has a strong commitment to scientific outreach and communication, best illustrated through his popular Inside-the-Brain website, Facebook and Twitter which report on the latest from the world of brain research.
